(Prunella grandiflora)

Prunella (Prunella Grandiflora Pagoda Mix) - Prunella seeds grow quickly and produce a very hardy flowering ground cover plant that will provide a long season of flowering. Very popular in Europe, Prunella is just beginning to come into its own in this country. The Prunella flowers in this mix are in the colours of deep violet, rich rosy-lilac, and pure white. It makes a lovely display of colour for a long bloom season, and the butterflies and beneficial insects are very attracted to it. It's a vigorous spreader and is excellent for edging the flower garden or as a general drought tolerant ground cover plant.

Prunella ground cover plants are quite frost-resistant, and they thrive in a wide variety of soils and light exposures. Prunella ground cover seeds are easy to sow and a great way to establish plants. It is ready to transplant just 6 weeks after sprouting, and may be started either in late winter for spring transplant, or in mid- to late summer for fall transplant. Prunella plants will bloom the first year when grown from seed. Hardy, dependable, and free-flowering, it is an exceptional ground cover you should not miss! Prunella care includes trimming the spent flowers to neaten the appearance and to promote continued blooming.

For spring transplanting, sow Prunella seeds in late winter, indoors. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Lightly cover the Prunella ground cover seeds with a fine sprinkling of peat moss. Place in a warm place, and keep at a temperature of between 65 - 70F. After sowing, keep the surface of the compost moist but not soggy. When large enough to handle, transplant the Prunella seedlings into 3 inch pots. Gradually harden the seedlings to outdoor conditions for 10 - 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost. Space plants 12 inches apart or plant in containers.
