Dianthus (Dianthus Barbatus Scarlet Beauty) - Start Dianthus seeds for this red beauty! This Dianthus Sweet William with crimson-black foliage and deep scarlet flowers is one of our favorite Dianthus flowers. It's excellent in leaf and bud and even better in full flower and, when used as a cut flower, has a vase life of at least ten days.

How To Grow Dianthus From Seed: For early blooms, sow Dianthus Barbatus Scarlet Beauty seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before frost season is over. Use sterile starter mix and sow seeds on the surface. Barely cover Dianthus seeds with soil. Transplant seedlings when temperatures have warmed.
Or sow Dianthus flower seed directly outside after frost season has passed and soil temperatures are warming to a minimum of 5C (40F) degrees or warmer. Broadcast flower seed and lightly rake in to the soil no more than 3 mm (1/16 inch) deep and keep flower seed moist until germination.
