Dahlia 'Bloody Mary' - seeds (Dahlia variabilis)
These annuals are a popular addition to the landscape because they have a wide range of heights, flower shapes, sizes, and colors. This dwarf Dahlia Bloody Mary is easily grown from flower seeds and produces blooms in shades of Dark Red and Brown. When the flower seeds are started indoors in the first part of spring, Dahlias begin blooming in early summer and continue until frost.
Grow Dahlia Variabilis from dormant tuberous roots, flower seeds, rooted from cuttings, or purchased as transplants. Double-flowering types have multiple rows of petals and have large flowers. Double-flowering types, such as this one, are also classified according to flower size and shape. They prefer full sun and are very sensitive to freezing temperatures. Dahlia seeds are best planted in very warm temperatures.

As soon as the plants are large enough to handle (approx. 3 weeks), prick out into 7cm (3in) pots to grow on at 15 to 18°C (59 to 65°F). Harden off and plant outdoors 30 to 45cm (12 to 18in) apart in soil with good nutrient content.
