Artichoke Violet de Provence is a stunning purple artichoke variety with medium globe shaped heads. Not only dose it look stunning but in the majorities opinion, has a finer taste and a more impactful flavour. This two meter artichoke can be left to flower and it will become a fabulous ornamental flower that will bloom into astounding violet-blue colours. Violet de Provence Artichokes will attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators that will bring joyful life to your garden. If you already have sunflowers in your garden then are the perfect companion for artichokes.

Artichokes have a remarkable and unique taste and great dishes can be made with them. They will provide you with a vast amount of nutrition such a Vitamins C and K. They are also packed with magnesium, fiber and carbs. They are almost completely fat and sugar free.

The cropping of Artichokes usually starts during the second year and plants remain productive for up to 4 years. It is recommended restrict the artichoke heads to 6 per plant in the first year of harvest. In the fourth year it is recommended to plant the suckers cultivated for the following year. Suckers are also known to produce higher quality plants. Artichoke is best sown indoors between March and May and then planted out into their permanent positions in late May or early June. Artichokes are known to love saltier soil and seaweed is said to be the best fertilizer for these plants. Slugs and snails love to feast on Artichokes so it is recommend to keep a close eye on them.
