Borage is a staggering herb with beautiful blue star shaped flowers that originate from Syria and will self-seed without any issues. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and other beneficial insects like beetles. Sowing these flowers next to tomatoes, cabbage, squash, strawberries is advisable as this wildflower will allow the bees to pollinate these vegetables. The flowers are edible and have a wonderful cucumber flavour to them. This makes the Borago officinalis a fantastic addition to salads, it is also often used in deserts, drinks and as a decorative plant on dishes. Borage not only provides a great taste and a stunning look but also can have an incredibly positive impact on your health providing a great source of vitamins B6, C and A. On top of these vitamins the Borago officinalis is a fine source of potassium and calcium. It is also known to help with chest and lung disorders.
